The dust has just about settled after the spectacular openining of the 2014 World Cup. What a match that was, full of controversy, awful decisions and shock goals.

Today is when the World Cup really begins. We're into the thick of the action with three games, and TotelFootball.com previews every one of them.

Mexico v Cameroon (17:00)

The first fixture of day two is a match between two of the World Cup's most enigmatic teams. Mexico and Cameroon are now perennial qualifiers but they've yet to turn that into real achievements. This is, however, a vital match for both teams. Whoever wins will be in pole position to take the second qualifying spot behind Brazil.

Mexico have flair and they like to attack, the problem is that they aren't very good at it. Manchester United hit and miss man Javier Hernandez has failed to score in nine games for his national side and so has been dropped from the starting line up. They will be relying on goals from the lightweight Giovani Dos Santos, and that says it all.

Cameroon have similarly been in the doldrums of late. Rumours say that they're  thinking of changing their nickname to 'The Domitable Lions'. Star man Samuel Eto'o is fighting to be fit, maybe that's because if his age. However old he is. I do expect him to start however alongside Vincent Aboubakar. Aboubakar is a good tip to score the first goal, and could do well at this tournament.

Here's a telling stat: Mexico have never beaten an African team at the World Cup. I don't expect them to start today and predict a victory by one goal to Cameroon.

Spain v Netherlands (20:00)

Day two of the tournament and we already have what could be the tie of the round. Two European heavyweights go head to head but which is the Ali and which is the Bruno?

Spain, of course, are defending their crown. But holding onto the Cup will prove much harder than winning it did. Spain are a squad that are passed their sell by date. Nowhere is that more evident that up front. David Villa has been a peripheral figure for Atletico Madrid, and it's truly shocking that Fernando Torres is still in the squad. Iker Casillas has more chance of scoring. Spain coach Del Bosque knows this is his weak point., so he's controversially called up Diego Costa. Costa currently has twice as many caps for Brazil than he does for Spain, but he must start tonight. Xavi and Iniesta in the middle are also not the force they were previously.

Holland, let's call them that, have been struggling to find their best formation but have a super talented squad. Will Van Gaal's mindbe on this tournament or on Old Trafford? Shorn of the influence of David Moyes, Robin Van Persie has now declared himself fully fit. He should terrorise the Spanish defence, ably assisted by Arjen Robben. Look out for Memphis Depay, the PSV striker. He isn't very good, but he does have an amusing name.

I expect Holland to win this comfortably and give Spain a reality check. With Chile also in the group, the Spaniards could find it hard to get out of the group.

Chile v Australia

This could be the most one-sided match yet. Australia don't have the likes of Kewell and Viduka any more, and their lack of quality will see them leaving Brazil without a point. Tim Cahill will try to pull the strings but he just doesn't have anyone of the same quality around him.

Chile, on the other hand, are a team on the up. They could be real dark horses this year. They play with a slick passing game allied to real pace and attacking intent. Midfield maestro Vidal is still not fit after surgery, so should start from the bench. Alexis Sanchez up front will terrorise many a good team. And Australia aren't a good team. The South Americans could win by three or four goals to nil.
